I previously wrote about feeling very anxious and apprehensive over the summer because I just couldn’t get my mind around the idea of third grade, setting up a classroom, and just being a “real” teacher vs. a push-in.

However, I am feeling more and more comfortable – even though school hasn’t even begun. This is partly due to coming back to a familiar school and familiar faces, and getting a beginning sense of what’s expected of me. Having time to set up my classroom has helped to allow all this to set in, as well. And while, yes, it’s clearly mountains more of work, it already feels more fulfilling.

Yes — still excited to be a classroom teacher (as I told my supervisor when she asked), even though I have spent 12 hours a day for the last 3 days fixing my new room. I inherited it from a clearly disenchanted, less-than-hard-working, retiring teacher who hoarded books and never leveled them for her library. The room was a disaster.

Spending way more than I wanted to, about what I expected, and probably less than I need to.

Exhausted.

And classes haven’t even begun.

woo hoo.
